The Long Journey

In about a month, I will be spared from the long bus rides and walks to work. I cannot wait, but there are nice parts about the long journey too-

I am going to savour the precious loneliness of the me-time it gives me each day. The joy of listening to my music (especially with my new earphones!), reading my stuff and watching my shows, all by myself. It really is kind of a nice routine after work, to be in my own world and…wear my blackest face without giving a hoot.

I am in quite a Debussy-mood today, which is quite rare, as his music, no matter how nice, always makes me want to sleep.

Weekend Pigout

We spent the whole weekend eating!

20120423-082613.jpg

We watched an SSO concert with my colleague, Mich, Ban and Sooty on Saturday. Concert was average- I hardly understood the Bartok Piano Concerto No. 2, but was rather impressed by the soloist’s crazy technique, and I loved how he is so at ease and somewhat casual on stage (e.g pushing the chair under the piano after he was done); he striked me as someone without airs and who is happy to be himself. The SSO played Dvorak’s 8th Symphony, which is my favorite Dvorak work, so I was quite excited to hear it love. That said, I am getting a bit tired by that symphony

Post concert, we headed to Lau Pa Sat for supper and it was my first time eating there at night. I did not know there were so many extra seats by the road at night, and so much seafood and satay. I am not huge on satay, but that was good!

Yuan Yuan also told us about all the different cuisines in China. I LOVE all the authentic Chinese food so much that I probably could live there.

In return for a small favour, Jason invited us to his place for a home cooked dinner. He made us some garlic bread and teriyaki steak, and we brought some salad from Sumo Salad, and desserts from Fruit Paradise.

The steak was nice and rare, but I have to talk about the bread that Jason made! I am a carb addict and I especially love all sorts of bread…Jason’s bread was chewy and dense, and also crunchy because of the seeds/grains he added! It was so satisfying to chew, but I had to stop myself from having too much because I wanted to save some room for the Fruit Paradise tarts, which we have never tried before.

I was a bit disappointed by the tarts! It was quite nice, but I think there are just too many different fruits/flavoured cream in the tarts, so I got sick of trying to figure out what I was eating. The tart itself was yummy though.

We watched the first segment of the Star Awards post-dinner. I know its a bit cheesy, but it was quite fun recognizing the celebrities from our childhood days. “Aiyoyo lau shi” feels like my childhood friend!

(post-edit: opps, I forgot to mention that Jason is Serene’s husband, if it isn’t obvious from above pictures that it was a double date. I think Jason=Serene to me, haha! She is lucky to have a master chef husband!)

My brother’s gf’s parents specially delivered some cupcakes from Plain Vanilla to our place. The cookies and cream one was so delightful at first bite and I really wished to stuff it down my mouth, but good things are meant for sharing!

Practice

My practice is quite dismal again because I have been lazy and giving priority to many other things such as spending time with people, playing with Flare, wedding planning and lazing.

I want to improve. I met my previous piano teacher lately and she also reminded me that I need to constantly give attention to my touch and tone. I also have a concert to prepare for, and I miss having some pieces at hand to play.

Despite the schedule, I promise I will dedicate more time, and more importantly, focus when I am actually practicing. I need to be more prepared for piano lessons.

Piano is like a journey in itself, with it’s ups and down. I am currently in a semi-down- lazy, demotivated but not really caring enough to be demoralized.

Independence

I realized I have been brought up to value independence, and to take care of myself. It also helped that I lived alone for four years during university days. I have never wanted to feel like a princess, or be pampered. And I am grateful to my parents for bringing us up this way.

It’s slightly different when Lennel pampers me though (sometimes), Hee! =D

Suited, fitted, arranged

More things done over the past 3 days, check, check and checked.

One- Over the weekend, mum, brother, brother’s girlfriend and I went to town to help my brother pick out a new suit and it was quite fun. Well, I think it was fun for the ladies to be standing outside the fitting room for once, as the guy went in and out of the room, declaring he was sweating from all the suits by the end. He finally picked out his attire!

Now to suit up my youngest brother.

Two- We went for the first fitting of my evening dress yesterday- very late, I know. I am happy with it and more importantly, Lennel is… He will be looking at me, not me!

Anyway, I saw new dresses hanging in the window yesterday, really pretty. I think the leftmost dress is one of the coolest gowns I have seen. If I get to have another wedding (haha!), I would love something like that.

Lennel also noted a rack of dresses labelled with celebrity names, in preparation to dress them for this Sunday’s Star Awards. We even saw the name of a Hongkong supermodel, so exciting.

Three- we have done a tentative assignment of our guests to specific table numbers! I thought the first go at it would be a pain in the ass, and I was surprised that it was only a 20 min job.

Someone asked me if I was counting down already. I did download a countdown app, but I have yet to check it since the day I keyed the wedding date in… It’s supposed to feel very near, but I feel like there is still a lot of time! I think I have too many non-wedding related challenges to cross before then, so I am more focused on getting through them.

For the record, I have just checked the app and it’s 1 month and 7 days. All is under control. =D

Husbands biscuit

It’s quite common to get “wives biscuits”, which I have a love-hate relationship with- love the crust, sometimes hate the ridiculously sweet filling and sometimes enjoy it. I just decided to try “husbands biscuits” and it is awful! I was told it contained “tau sar”, which I presumed meant red beans, but I think it is actually green bean!

I am so addicted to Sun Moulin Bakery, especially the green tea mochi bread!

Move in resolution

My move in resolution is to be as neat and clean as possible.

I can imagine myself on my knees cleaning the bedroom floor with a cloth. I know I am weird, but that is my preferred way of moping the floor. It’s just more satisfying! I wonder if i can exchange all chores with Lennel for floor-wiping services, toilet floor included.

Mental note to self: I need to find out where cloths are kept. I am going to clean the cupboard we use to keep our toiletries when I am over this week.

Seriously, I think I will be fine with cleaning, washing and tidying. What I think I will struggle with is anything that requires me to use my brains- cooking, ironing, folding (but still somewhat okay), and maybe operating a washing machine. I find it difficult to use my brains when I am off work. Sweeping also annoys me because I just want to get down on my knees with a cloth.

I do not know how this post became about household chores, but on a related note, I need to get down on my knees this weekend to clean my piano room!

Kill-joy

The one single downer to the wedding is the prospect of endless enquiries on my so-called “social and feminine obligations”.

I am just in a bad mood today. I shall go read a magazine, compartmentalize my negativity and stay cool.

1st batch of yummies

20120415-130415.jpg
I LOVE this, but there are none for us in this batch.

Mum and I gave out the cakes on our neighbors last night and they asked if I was moving out… It must be my piano noise, embarassing!
